Agitator
271 episodes and still not going anywhere.
I ain’t notice how much confusion there was on the existence of Agitator, the Takashi Miike-influenced writing podcast J David Osborne and I started several years ago. For a hot minute, we were climbing the Spotify charts, which was no surprise. I mean, it’s easily my favorite podcast. We’re uninhibited, unfiltered, smart as shit, experienced in what we discuss, we have jobs and families and we make art and we’re not bitches about it. We might be the only living writers who know how to sell their books and are willing to share the sauce as we whip it up. There are other writing and publishing advice shows, but none that are as obsessed with anime as we are, which also factors in. A lot.
So yeah, the success of the show from the jump was no surprise. In fact, it pissed me off. 1,000,000 downloads in a year did not do SHIT to my bank account. So I told JDO we gotta make this exclusive. We did that, moving the show over to Patreon and locking 90% of the episodes behind a modest paywall, and a good chunk of faithfuls have stuck with us. But the needle ain’t moved a lick. And what I’ve been hearing is a lot of folks think we disappeared. We’re gonna be better at putting the show out there, ‘cause we ain’t even close to slowing down. It’s lowkey one of the most valuable things I have to offer the world.
This year, JDO, myself, and our recently adopted brother Nicholas Rall will be primarily focused on book discussions with the authors of the books we’re covering. We’ll derail ourselves plenty, but the thriving and hustling corner of independent literature will be our primary focus. The show will remain (far as I care) mostly paywalled, but a lot of these episodes will end up being free or at least partially free.
But how can you keep up?
Glad you asked!
I just now discovered we have access to Spotify and Apple creator hubs even though we’re hosting from Patreon. Listen, these hands are acquainted with mud and splinters and concrete, I ain’t even know what an RSS feed was until we had a couple hundred episodes under our belt. But what this means for our listeners is you can subscribe to the podcast anywhere you want, you ain’t gotta be ghetto listening to it on Patreon.
Here’s the Spotify link to the show:
Here’s the Apple link:
Apple is slowly syncing, but I think it should catch up. I’ll keep an eye on it.
And it’s simple as that! If you’re a paying subscriber, you get access to everything. If not, you get the free shit. To access everything, sign up for the $5 or $7 tier HERE.
If all of that is just too goddamn simple, you can copy the RSS link from Patreon. You gotta be a wizard, though, I still don’t understand that shit.
Anyway, that’s all. I’d say happy to be back, but we never went anywhere. Catch up, slow poke.
Be easy.
